Services
Therapeutic Drug Monitoring
We work with hospitals, mental health services and other healthcare organisations across the UK and Ireland, providing reliable analysis for drugs that require close monitoring due to narrow therapeutic ranges or complex pharmacokinetics.
Analytical Services International (ASI) provides therapeutic drug monitoring services to support clinicians and healthcare providers in delivering safe and effective patient care. Our TDM service offers accurate drug concentration measurement, expert interpretation and clinically relevant turnaround times that help guide treatment decisions.

How Therapeutic Drug Monitoring Supports Patient Care
TDM helps ensure that a patient receives an appropriate dose of medication. Measuring drug concentrations can support clinical decision making in situations such as:

Lack of therapeutic response

Suspected toxicity

Changes in a patient’s clinical condition

Adjustments to dose or treatment regimen

Potential drug interactions

Concerns regarding adherence
ASI provides therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) services to support clinicians and healthcare providers in delivering safe and effective patient care. Our TDM service offers accurate drug concentration measurement, expert interpretation and clinically relevant turnaround times that help guide treatment decisions.
Drugs We Monitor
ASI provides validated assays for a range of clinically important medications, including:

Antipsychotic medicines, such as clozapine and olanzapine

All other first and second-generation antipsychotics

Immunosuppressants, including everolimus, sirolimus and mycophenolic acid

Anti-arrhythmic drugs - flecainide
Our methods measure the active pharmaceutical ingredient and, where clinically useful, relevant metabolites that may influence treatment response or reflect patterns of adherence.

Clozapine Monitoring
ASI offers a dedicated clozapine monitoring service supported by an encrypted online portal. Registered clinicians can:

Access patient results securely

Support adherence assessments

Monitor clinical stability over time

Review historical results by patient
This service provides convenient access to results in a format that supports ongoing clinical review.
Our TDM Process

Sample Collection
Samples are usually taken at the end of the dosage interval, often referred to as the trough level. Appropriate sample type and timing help ensure the result is clinically meaningful.

Information Requirements
To support accurate interpretation, relevant information should accompany each sample, such as dose, time of collection, concomitant medication, reason for request and any clinical concerns.

Laboratory Analysis
All assays are performed using validated methods with appropriate sensitivity and specificity. Analysis is carried out by experienced scientists and supported by internal quality controls and participation in external quality schemes.

Reporting and Interpretation
Results are reviewed before release and provided in mass units with reference ranges where appropriate. Interpretation considers individual patient factors, published therapeutic guidance and any additional information supplied by the requester.

Why Therapeutic Drug Monitoring Matters
TDM can play an important role in:

Detecting toxicity, overdose or drug interactions

Supporting dose adjustments

Improving patient outcomes through personalised care

Identifying treatment failure or non-adherence

Maximising therapeutic effectiveness

What people say about us
FAQs: All You Need to Know
Which medicines do you monitor through therapeutic drug monitoring?
We provide TDM for selected antipsychotics, psychotropic medicines, immunosuppressants and cardiac drugs. Assay availability can be confirmed on request.
How should samples be timed for therapeutic drug monitoring?
Samples are usually collected at the end of a dosing interval. Trough sampling allows for results that better reflect steady state concentrations.
Can you provide interpretation with TDM results?
Yes. Our reports include concentration data with appropriate reference information. Interpretation takes account of clinical context and information supplied with the request.
How quickly are TDM results available?
Turnaround times are designed to support clinical decision making and can be confirmed at the time of request.
Do you offer a secure system for clinicians to access clozapine results?
Yes. Registered users can access clozapine results through our encrypted online portal, which also provides trend reporting.
